I can't understand why everyone is treating this as a funny joke. I get that laughing feels nicer compared to, say, annoyance or anger...but if this sort of behavior is allowed to continue, it will eventually become normalized.

The issue are the ToS and tags, not the fic itself.

Telling everyone to "just change your skin" isn't a fix. Not everyone has an account and getting one isn't easy. (Also, forcing people to make an account tends to not go over very well.) With this I don't mean to come after those who have shared the code to hide the fic. It's good that it's being shared. What sucks is that the users need to take this measure because the admins refuse to take care of their space.

Here's how it looks on twitter user [twitter.com profile] hualing's 27" monitor (when searched, so the right-side panel isn't visible and the blurb is naturally expanded to fit the screen). Scroll to the next tweet for a video.

Apparently, as long as you're smugly polite, this kind of hostility is allowed.

'who asked/cares, lol?' )

Also, just to be clear, I'm not advocating for the removal of the work or the banning of the author. Not at all! I want a better UX. For everyone. I'm aware I can customize my own—I have.

...but I suppose I, and all of us maybe, can now kiss the anonymous lurkers goodbye. I wouldn't stay.

P.S. One can argue whether a user should fight against the ToS. Considering the fact one agrees to them upon requesting an invitation, perhaps one should just walk away if the terms no longer suit them. By one, in this case, I mean me.
