cyberbrain: superman drinking tea (superman tea)
When I first made this kind of post in December I didn't think I'd make more of them :D Then, recently I figured it might be nice to look back on the fun stuff I did.

So, January. January was a bit weird because my workplace announced they were gonna do renovations in the office and I spent the entire month working from home. Which is wonderful and what I normally do anyway but somehow officially being told to just stay home helped a lot and I was calmer.

In late December I learned about [personal profile] candyheartsex and decided to sign up (I even wrote a post-it and stuck it to my desk to remind myself). I got matched, had an idea and actually managed to finish a fic! I'm still amazed and proud of myself. Also, I'm very grateful to ratty, the best girlfriend, for being a tireless cheerleader and beta-reader. <3 It had been a really long time since I last finished a fic.

Regarding media, I went hard on DCEU movies. I started with Man of Steel and loved it a lot...except for the Twilight style of blue overlay color-grading. What were they thinking? 😩

Then I watched Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Zack Snyder's Justice League and also loved both. Something I found strange is that the BvS version I watched on HBOMax wasn't the director's cut—that's called Ultimate Edition apparently and is also half and hour longer—and it wasn't available when I was watching. Meanwhile, I'd read that the original Justice League sucked and that ZSJL is significantly better. And yes, I liked it a lot,,,even though it's four hours long.

I now plan to watch the longer BvS and the original JL because apparently somehow that movie has scenes that aren't in ZSJL. (I understand why ZS stopped working on the movie, I don't fault him.)

I was planning on doing a separate post to squee over—and I cannot believe I'm saying this, I didn't expect things to turn out this way—Batfleck. Affleck played a great Bruce Wayne and I kind of can't stop thinking about that. See, I wanted to watch Man of Steel and after that I wanted more Superman, which meant I had to see BvS. My reaction to the idea of Batfleck was, like he himself said he saw on the internet, "Nooooooo." Little did I fucking know his little waistcoats and graying hair would get me and hold me. Holy hell, of all the Bruce Waynes I've seen, he was the only one who was dressed like I'd imagine a billionaire. (fwiw, Battinson is still my favorite Batman; I can't pick a favorite Bruce because they're all so different from one another and I love all of them 🙈)

(I watched the Nolan Batman trilogy in December and liked it very much, but I don't really have thoughts to share. Chris Bale was amazing in the role.)

(I really liked Lex Luthor in BvS, too. A proper menace :3)

Oh! I watched the first Wonder Woman movie (with Gal Gadot) and liked that very much as well. Basically, I don't get why the DCEU gets so much hate. Sure, they're not the best movies ever made but like,,they're far from any definition of bad.

As I said in December, I wanted to learn more about Superman and Batman because I liked the ship between them. Well, I know more now and I ship them harder and I'm happy. I've got a few WIPs about them already. 🙈

Spotify suggested me an album—Nocturnal by Mothica. I hadn't heard of her before but I guess the album cover looked interesting enough for me to decide to give it a shot. I listened to the whole thing in one go. A few songs struck me as very Batman (Nocturnal), Superbat (Last Cigarette, Blood), and Lex Luthor + Superman (Absinthe).

In December I also said I wanted to read more books. I started reading The Witcher by Andzej Sapkowski. I haven't seen the show and I haven't played any of the games (even though I own two, lmao). I plan on eventually playing Witcher 3 (not among the games I own, weirdly enough) but we'll see when I get to that. I barely have time to play thanks to my job (and just this month, a week or so ago, I decided I was going to get back into FFXIV, so that'll be part of my gaming for the near future).

Anyway, back to booktalk, I decided against getting The Witcher boxset because I wasn't sure it would be my cup of tea. I don't typically like fantasy very much,,especially when it's set in some sort of medieval-ish times. So I bought the first book and found myself liking it. I haven't finished it yet but I'm close (a third of it left), so I went out to buy the second too, lest it disappear from the store. (It appears I bought the last copy because it wasn't listed in the store's inventory on its site the next day.)

Hm. This was a bit of February. More stuff from this month,, I watched an Amy Adams show called Sharp Objects (based on a book of the same name). I liked it, the plot was interesting and the acting was good and the cinematography was beautiful...I wouldn't recommend it (to just anyone). It's heavy and dark and sad. some warnings ) It's definitely not a light-hearted show.

The next show I started watching is Batman: The Animated Series. I'm four episodes in and I love it. (Thank you HBOMax for uploading it/sharing it again.)

I participated in all the challenges at [community profile] iconthat these two months too. I really wanted to make five icons for the last challenge but I didn't have ideas for more than two icons, oof.

Okay, one last thought because, oop, this post got long. I can't decide if I want to sign up for [community profile] hurtcomfortex, all the tags have me going *spinny-eyed emoji*.
